Functional-Style Features of Syntactic Specifiers in Ukrainian Mass Media.

Abstract

Syntactic specifiers, as N. Fomina notes are explanatory constructions, refinement members of a sentence, substantive turns, homogeneous members of the sentence with a prepositional generalization word, and other adjacent semantic-syntactic phenomena. In the mass media one can distinguish constructions that specify the subject, the predicate, the object, the attribute, the adverbial modifier. Syntactic specifiers are used to present to the readers, viewers an unknown participant in the plot, the person of the event mentioned for the first time, to characterize the professional activity, age and character traits, to specify the properties of the object or subject, time, place, mode of action, the explanation of certain concepts that require additional information in order to express the author's assessment of the message.
