The study of neologisms, among the ways of formation of which a special place is given to such a way of word formation, as telescopy (a kind of compressive word formation, which involves the combination of two or more truncated word bases) is engaged in a special section of lexicology – neology, the increased interest to which, especially recently, is due to the important role of neologisms as the so called “mirrors’ of language development. The topicality of the study is accounted for by the need for further, more detailed description of word -forming and semantic peculiarities of modern English neologisms, formed through telescopy as a special kind of compressive word-formation (telescopic neologisms or telescopisms).
