Typology and strategies for rendering translation equivalents in PolishUkrainian legal discourse

The article examines the issues of translation adequacy and equivalence within Polish-Ukrainian legal discourse. The study addresses the theoretical foundations and practical aspects of rendering legal terminology, specifically the functioning of translation equivalents in specialised texts (declarations, conventions, memoranda, and protocols). The systematic nature of lexical transformations as instruments for overcoming interlingual asymmetry is analysed. Attention is given to the strategies of selecting variable equivalents and bridging lexical lacunae to preserve the content and terminological precision of the source text. The study demonstrates that the successful rendering of legal concepts requires translators to take into account contextual, linguocultural., and pragmatic factors.
